Academic Research Seminar on Hybrid Power Plant

Karongi on 23rd October 2024: Ir. Jean d’Amour Niyonsaba, Lecturer in Electrical and Electronics Engineering presented his research paper titled “Feasibility study of hybrid Hydro-PV power plant possible deployment in remote rural area” to staff and student.

Ir. Jean d’Amour emphasized the integration of hydropower and photovoltaic (PV) systems, highlighting their potential to offer reliable and sustainable energy solutions for rural areas. He discussed the advantages of combining these two renewable energy sources, including enhanced energy security, reduced operational costs, and the ability to complement each other's energy production profiles.

The participants also discussed a completed feasibility study that assessed the technical, economic, and social impacts of deploying a hybrid Hydro-PV power plant in a rural setting. The study addressed the challenges posed by geographical constraints while highlighting the system's benefits for rural electrification.
