On 23rd June, 2022, during the event of commemorating staff and students, of former ETO Kibuye and EAFO Nyamishaba schools, who were killed in the genocide against Tutsi in 1994, IPRC Karongi supported two genocide survivors with capital to grow their small businesses.

IPRC Karongi is used to supporting disadvantaged survivors, of the 1994 genocide against Tutsi, in Karongi district. This year particularly, during 100 days of commemoration, they decided to visit all families which they supported during previous years since 2013 in order to continue addressing some of socio-economic problems they may have.

Delivering her remarks Mrs. Dominique Ingabire, the Principal of IPRC Karongi has said that they do not only remember the genocide perpetrated against Tutsi in 1994 on a special day like today, rather they do so always. She has added that they will continue helping genocide survivors as IPRC Karongi does annually.

Athanasie Nyirahabineza and Samson Munyabagisha who were given capital are among 8 families that IPRC Karongi supported in previous years, and who were visited this year. Athanasie used to retail foodstuffs while Samson retail domestic animals (goats). Both were given 400,000 FRW (200,000 FRW for each) in order to facilitate their long term self-sustainability.

“This support is going to enable us to grow our businesses, and help in our everyday life. Such act proves that we remember-unite-renew, and that our leaders think about us all times. God bless IPRC Karongi,” Athanasie expressed her feelings.

Samson said that the capital will enable him to develop and help others. He said, “I am used to buying and selling goats, but my capital was not sufficient as I retailed two or three goats. Now this support is going to facilitate me to progress and help others, thus I am so grateful to IPRC Karongi, these staff are very kind.”

Moreover, IPRC Karongi gave foodstuff, which cost 800,000 FRW specifically 100,000 FRW for each, to the 8 families. The budget amounts to 1,200,000 FRW was contributed by all IPRC Karongi staff.

Samson Munyabagisha was given the capital to raise his small business.

All 8 families were given foodstuff worth 800,000 FRW.
