RP-Karongi College conducts the awareness campaign for secondary schools in Western Province

Karongi on 16-18 December 2024: Staff conducted RP-Karongi awareness campaign for secondary schools located in Western Province, Karongi District aiming at promoting awareness on the College’s Academic Programs and inspiring young women to pursue Engineering and Technical fields.

The main objective of the RP-Karongi College awareness campaign was to provide students with comprehensive information about the college's programs and the benefits of pursuing technical fields, with a specific focus on encouraging girls to engage in engineering and technical disciplines, thereby addressing the existing gender disparity in these areas.

Whereas specific objectives include:

  • To provide relevant information about College’s programs and well as benefits of pursuing engineering and technical fields; To actively encourage girls to enroll in engineering and technical programs.

  • To highlight how technical education can lead to self-employment and job-creation even when still in college.

  • To raise awareness about importance of gender equality in education and employment within technical fields.

  • To combat stereotypes and misconceptions about women in engineering and technical fields.

  • To build partnership with Secondary Schools to foster a supportive environment for girls pursuing engineering and technical education.

The campaign featured presentations and interactive sessions that showcased RP Karongi College’s programs, such as Agriculture Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Hospitality Management, Information and Communication Technology, and Mechanical Engineering. It also highlighted career opportunities and practical benefits. Special focus was placed on dispelling myths about technical education and demonstrating how it aligns with Rwanda's job market needs.

A total of 762 students participated, with 576 females (75.6%) and 186 males (24.4%), from College Sainte Marie Kibuye, E.S Bwishyura and G.S Nyabikenke.
