Karongi, on October 7, 2021: Yesterday, Science and Generic Modules Department, celebrated in honour of their two former staff, Jean Baptiste Kayitera and Bernadette Kabasinga, Mathematics teachers, who retired from their teaching career at IPRC Karongi.
Science and Generic Modules Department is composed of staff who teach sciences (Mathematics & Physics), Languages (English, Kinyarwanda, French & Kiswahili) and Entrepreneurship subjects. It is a newly established department to teach crosscutting modules taught at all levels of the college (Advanced Diploma, TVET School and Vocational Training).
Apart from delivering modules, the department facilitates IPRC Karongi community to use English as a medium of instruction in their administrative and academic deliverables; organizes debate competitions among students, public lectures & seminars in collaboration with other departments & Units.
The staff who are going in retirements expressed their feelings, and acknowledged leaders and staff of their own department as well as Institution's Management at large for memorable times they shared.
"I am grateful to Almighty for protecting me for 67 years, and IPRC Karongi management for the way we worked together. I started serving the country as a teacher in 1978 at Zaza. In 1981 I was deployed at Muramba," said Jean Baptiste.
He added, "That time, working far from home was very difficult because of lack of transport means, we had to trek on foot. Fortunately, in 1986 I was shifted from Muramba to Rubengera where is very near, and finally in 2001 I came to work here at IPRC Karongi when it was called ETO Kibuye."
Expressing her feelings, Bernadette said it is always difficult to point out what to say in a farewell ceremony. She said, " I arrived in this Institution one day after my marriage in 1995. That time I was teaching Mathematics, Physics, Kinyarwanda and providing support in school's infirmary, because of shortage employees until 2001."
"I was deployed to work in Rutsiro District as an Agronomist in 2006, unfortunately I experienced accident from which I was injured, subsequently I requested premature retirement. After recovering from the accident, ETO Kibuye called me to come and continue working as a teacher. This is the second certificate I get from this Institution as in 2010 I was awarded as the best performer employee," added Bernadette.
Jean Baptiste retired because he reached his retiring age whereas Bernadette was authorized a premature retirement due to illness. IPRC Karongi awarded both certificates of recognition, and the Department gifted them envelopes whishing them that the years to come may bring them a full measure of health, happiness and enjoyment.
In her remarks, Liliane Musabe, the Corporate Services Division Manager who represented the Instutution's Management in the ceremony, acknowledged the retired staff for all their efforts and devotion rendered to the country, Education Sector and IPRC Karongi in particular.
She also commended the Department for their initiative to establish their own social fund, and encouraged other Department representatives to learn from Science and Generic Modules. She promised that the institution will continue to give them a hand wherever it is possible.
