The team was led by Ms. Aurélie KARL, the AFD project Manager. They were welcomed by IPRC Karongi Management together with Mr. James Karangwa, the Executive Secretary of Karongi District.

In his introductory remarks, the DVC-AF said that the purpose of the visit was to see how they can develop the institution in terms of infrastructures which will enable RP to achieve its mandate to provide higher quality training in order to facilitate achievement of the country’s vision to provide middle income level of the citizens.

He said, “We need to increase the employability of our young generation, to create opportunities especially for our graduates who will have hands-on skills to facilitate industry, private sector and the economy at large.”

The DVC-AF added that they have started to make engagement with their partners mainly AFD to provide infrastructure development in RP colleges, and thus they are in the process of potential development programs including the learning centre with good workshops at the new campus Nyamishaba.

“We need to have a standard college which will host increasing number of our students. We are also thinking of sport facilities not only to be resourceful to our students but also to the community around at large,” the DVC-AF briefed the participants.

On her occasion, Ms. Aurelie said that their project is about enhancing the professional skills of the TVET and IPRCs students especially in mechatronics, and that they began to implement it with IPRC Tumba and four TVET Schools in Rulindo District.

“Our second aspect of this project is to improve linkages with the market and private sector in order to ensure that our students will have big job opportunities,” mentioned Aurélie. She added that they were mandated by the Government of Rwanda to scale up the project into the second phase and touch more residents.

“The point is to replicate what we are doing in the district of Rulindo here in Karongi District and also in the district of Nyamagabe with IPRC Kitabi and TVET Schools,” Aurélie uttered.

The Principal of IPRC Karongi, Mrs. Dominique Ingabire presented to the visitors the college’s overview includes historical background, academic programs, students enrollment and future planned projects, and the visitors toured Nyamishaba campus facilities in the end.

The AFD officially opened its office in Rwanda on 21st March, 2022, but its activities started last year in January 2021 beginning with education platform by creating partnership with Rwanda Polytechnic and Rwanda TVET Board (RTB).
