The Minister of State in charge of ICT & TVET Visits IPRC Karongi
Karongi June 8, 2021: On this Tuesday, Honorable Minister of State (MoS) in charge of ICT & TVET, Claudette IRERE together with the Mayor of Karongi District, the Director General of Rwanda TVET Board, Officials from Swiss Agency for Development & Cooperation (SDC), Swisscontact and UNFPA-Rwanda visited IPRC Karongi.
It was in a field visit, to Rubengera TVET School and IPRC Karongi-Nyamishaba Campus, in line with Gender in the TVET System and Sustainable TVET Schools Infrastructures.
The visit aimed to witness and assess the implementation of activities under the PROMOST III includes construction of dormitories for female students and its effects on gender, to develop further synergies among Swiss funded projects, includes rehabilitation of Nyamishaba Campus, in shared objectives etc.
The Principal of IPRC Karongi, Mrs. Dominique INGABIRE welcomed visitors and gave them a recapitulation of Nyamishaba campus especially its historical background since it was built by Swiss Government in 1965 as a Veterinary and Agriculture school (Ecole Agricole et Forestière-EAFO NYAMISHABA) under the Ministry of Agriculture.
She also briefed them on the Academic activities that Nyamishaba Campus hosts as well as the planned projects to be implemented within the campus such as initiating the new Department of Agricultural Engineering, Constructing an Administration Block and a Learning centre, Travel and Tourism among others. The Principal acknowledged visitors for their dedicated time and for everything they discussed towards the implementation of projects for Nyamishaba Campus.
In her speech, the Minister of State said she was very pleased as it was her first time to visit Karongi District, Rubengera TVET and IPRC Karongi, since her appointment in February, 2020. She continued delivering hare remarks and said TVET still needs support.
"To me, TVET is still a baby, it still needs supporting arms in different angles, many because it is also one of the sector that the Government is really focusing on," said the MoS.
The Minister stated that they will continue to ensure the opportunities are given to TVET graduates as in the start, certificates of IPRCs graduates are now recognized. The State Minister thanked SDC and Swisscontact partners particularly for their supporting IPRC Karongi.
She said, "We wish to recognize your support towards renovating this and even establishing the new program within this campus, we do not take that for granted." She finally thanked everyone and promised they will continue coming back and supporting IPRC Karongi.
"I want to thank everyone for making this visit a memorable one. This is not definitely the last time we are here, we will come back. There is so much we can do here, we will continue to ensure that the school is supported," Said the MoS.
Nyamishaba is an extension campus of IPRC Karongi since 2020. Nyamishaba facilities were provided to IPRC Karongi for full occupancy so as to address the problem of overpopulated classrooms which had overcome the institution in previous years. Previously, Nyamishaba campus was under the University of Rwanda ownership.
