Zipline Rwanda: Muhanga Team engages IPRC Karongi young engineers
Karongi on August 12, 2021: This Thursday, Muhanga Zipline Team led by Prosper Uruvugundi, the Site Lead visited IPRC Karongi and interacted engineering students.
It was in their program to educate and inspire future generations of engineers, technicians and industry experts. The visit purpose was also to attract engineering students so that the interested ones can join Zipline at the end of their studies.
Zipline Rwanda is lifesaving drone delivery service in Rwanda through transporting blood products, essential medicines consumables and vaccines, using drones, to healthy facilities especially in remote areas and in emergency situations. Zipline is an Amercan company based in California with the mission to provide every human on earth with instant access to vital medical supplies.
The Deputy Principal in charge of Academics and Training, Leonard Manirambona acknowledged Muhanga Zipline Team for their good initiative to engage IPRC Karongi students. He therefore proposed them to have an agreement through which they can extend both parties collaboration in terms of training, students innovation, study tours among others.
Mr. Prosper recognized IPRC Karongi for the collaboration to facilitate their visit and allowing them to interact with the students even during these hard times of the pandemic. He said they had the idea to come after realizing that they don't have any staff from IPRC Karongi.
Interacting with the students, the team briefed the students about the process of launching drone, controlling, covering and maintenance. The Zipline drones are composed of three main electronic components which are wings, battery and body.
Apart from vital medical supplies delivering service, the Zipline Rwanda has got a Training Academy launched in 2018, and opened doors to youth from secondary schools & universities in Rwanda in order to enable them to learn more about Zipline operations, innovation and career opportunities.
The students were very excited to know more about Zipline, and committed to staying in touch in case there is training and job opportunities. Muhanga Zipline covers three provinces specifically North, South and West, and it currently supplies three hundred fifty-four (354) health facilities.
